| Aim: | This course can be run either as a half day Introduction to Equality and Diversity, or it can be delivered as a full day programme, incorporating an organisation’s Equality policies, procedures and real life scenarios. Whilst embracing the legislation that is relevant to Equal Opportunities, this course is far from being a ‘talk and chalk’ format. Instead, aspects are delivered in a thought provoking, conversational, lively manner which means that delegates are drawn into the relevance and benefits of diversity in the workplace. |
| Course Objectives: | Gain clarity on the concepts and benefits of Equality and Diversity Understand the 6 ‘strands’ – race, gender, disability, age, religion and belief, gender reassignment and sexual orientation, and the Acts that encompass them Understand what is legal and what constitutes unlawful behaviour with respect to the 6 strands |

| Course Content: | Background of ‘Equality and Diversity’ and its application in the workplace Understand relevant legislation in terms of what it means in practice Discover how the natural process of stereotyping can unintentionally lead to discrimination Explore the Attitudes Cycle and how it drives behaviour Equal Ops terminology – definitions of the most frequently used terms Positive Action versus Positive Discrimination – which is legal and which isn’t Exploration of case studies – were the outcomes the expected results or not? Policies, procedures and best practice within your organisation How can you better manage, respond to and value diversity? |
