| Aim: | A one day training programme that encompasses all aspects of facilitating meetings and workshops, from planning and ‘chairing’ them to encouraging creative thinking, problem resolution and achieving positive outcomes for all. |
| Course Objectives: | Understand the role of the Facilitator and the situations in which their presence is highly beneficial. Learn how to manage potentially confrontational situations and resolve conflict Develop ability to use Appreciative Inquiry techniques to generate solutions to problems. |

| Course Content: | The role of the Facilitator
Planning for the meeting – setting the 3 levels of outcome, creating an effective agenda with structure and timings Facilitator’s preparation checklist Meeting room layout and strategic seating plan Rules of Order – getting everyone’s ‘buy-in’ to how the group will conduct itself The meeting in progress – understanding group behaviour and dynamics Key behaviour skills of the successful Facilitator, particularly in ensuring that all participants are encouraged to contribute their input to the workshop Dealing assertively with difficult participants and situations Avoiding or resolving conflict The importance of listening Recognising and dealing with power struggles, hidden agendas and prejudices The right way to conduct a Brainstorming session Keeping the workshop on track whilst allowing adequate exploration of unanticipated but valuable topics Problem resolution and creative thinking using Appreciative Inquiry techniques Creating break-out group exercises to tap into the dynamics of altered group sizes and personalities Ensuring key points and follow-on actions are captured and recorded accurately Steering the workshop towards positive outcomes and a good conclusion |
